It feels so good to finally share this film with you... Red Bull's 'Matt Jones - Frames Of Mind' is one of our biggest projects of the year, and a one where we pushed the boundaries conceptually and with the use of visual effects. To premiere this film last night in London and see it being shared online today is incredible. The feedback so far has been really positive which is amazing!
Check out the full film below. We hope you like it!
How was it done?
Since Spring we've been working with Matt to realise the 'Frames Of Mind' concept - demonstrating how he takes his insane lines and creative tricks from imagination to reality. Our aim was to visually represent the idea of how Matt visualises his tricks in one jaw-dropping edit and hopefully we've done that!!
Once we'd captured the goods and loaded the hard drives we handed over to our team in the studio, who transformed the raw footage into the polished, mind-bending product you can now watch online. What makes this film so unique is the use of slow-motion 'traces' to show you what unbelievable stunt Matt is visualising. Creating this effect in reality was a technical, time-consuming task, using both keying and rotoscoping techniques- all undertaken by our in-house team here in our studio. We'd seen a few references in the past of this technique using still images, however we decided to push this further and to a far greater level by using slow motion moving footage. The complexity of overlaying these moving 'traces' (as we call them) on top of the realtime moving footage (often drone or cablecam shots) definitely pushed the boundaries of this concept and to say we're stoked with the results is an understatement... We always strive to step out of our comfort zone, and this project couldn't have come out much better!
We'll be back soon with a full behind the scenes breakdown of the tricks and techniques used in producing Frames of Mind. In the meantime check out this behind the scenes snippet now on the Red Bull YouTube channel.
